Using the iPhone camera front, measures your heart rate Cardio
It is still relatively early in mobile health, although there glucose monitors that can be nailed for iPhones, heart rate and sleep monitoring applications, and of course, plenty of exercise and diet tracking products.
Now that many concepts of basic products have been defined, it is time for iteration. Enter Cardiio, a startup and graduate incubator Rock Health. Founded by a team of doctors out of the MIT Media Lab, the company built a $ 4.99 app heart rate monitoring that does not require you to touch the iPhone camera. Actually, it does not require any contact beyond holding the phone so that the front-facing camera captures his face. From there, Cardiio sensors can pick up small changes in the color of his face that indicate the heart rate.
"We can measure the amount of reflected light on her face," said co-founder Ming-Zher Poh. "The more blood that flows in your face, the more it absorbs light. This is reflected off your face every time your heart beats, and the camera is really good enough to get him."
In some tests of my own, which combined resting pulse I was able to take as long as my heart beats for one minute. It is somewhat reminiscent Azumio, biofeedback startup in Silicon Valley that is raised funding from Founders Fund, Accel and Felicis. But the difference is that with app Azumio heart rate, you have to touch your finger to the iPhone camera. Monitor heart rate Azumio also takes the heart from color changes on your finger.
Like other applications monitoring heart rate, Cardiio makes long-term monitoring so you can see how your resting heart rate changed in the last month or more. Also you can compare with the average population.
Now the team behind the company is only two people and they have initial funding of Rock Health. They are holding off on raising more funds until they can prove traction.
Long term, the company wants to expand to measure other types of biofeedback. "Our long term vision is a non-contact approach and software-based measurement of information about your body,"
