Okay so we all know that eggrolls aren`t very healthy. They`re usually made with pork (high fat content) and then deep fried. However there are a few things that I love to do to make my eggrolls a little healthier. So the first thing that I do to make this healthier is to add more veggies and leave out less meat in the filling. I`ll add grated taro, sweet potato, cabbage, carrot, onion, and garlic powder. Of course you need to season it with sugar, salt, and pepper. Next, instead of using pork, I`ll use lean ground turkey. Lastly, I`ll fry the eggrolls in olive oil (or canola as a last resort) so it`s a little more `heart healthy` for my family. I dont know how many calories this saves by doing it but no one notices any difference in taste which is awesome. And you know what? My family can`t even tell the difference! lol My brother is probably the pickiest person on earth and he still loved them the same after I changed everything.
We serve this with a vietnamese sauce made from fish sauce, sugar, garlic, lime juice, sambal chili, and water.
