So I attempted in making my first candles today with the kit my boyfriend got me for Christmas. Being candle-obsessed, it couldn`t have been more perfect :P Though because it was a kit, which I found out by looking through the site, he couldn`t choose the fragrances so there are a couple I`m not too fond of, but I can always make those and give them away to people :)
The wax came in two 5lb slabs which were a little bit of a pain to cut. But it was soft wax so I could get through it with a long kitchen knife (during which I prayed my mom wouldn`t come in and start yelling at me for using food knife to cut wax :P) She didn`t.
I cut one of the slabs into 1/2lb chunks and separated them. For these candles I used 1lb of wax with the enchanted apple fragrance and red dye chips. It was pretty easy, the scent throw isn`t very strong, but I could always add more fragrance. It`s kind of expensive though just for the fragrance, so I think I`m just gonna stick with the 1oz of fragrance per pound of wax. I like candles mainly for the flickering light anyways :P The scent is strong enough for me :)
I think the first attempt came out pretty well. I`m keeping track of how long my mason jar candle burns (I poured the extras into there) and it seems to be burning pretty slowly which is good :) I go through candles way to fast. But I still love them :)
