Hello lovely Luuuxers!
Today I am back showing you another picture from my trip to Hawai`i, and this time, I am showing you one of the most spectacular parts of the whole trip! Hawai`i is so beautiful that everything is a spectacle, but seeing the sunrise from almost 10,000 feet above sea level was completely life changing!
The Haleakala Volcano is on Maui, and it is part of Haleakala National Park. Even though it is a volcano, it is not at risk of erupting any time soon! A tour bus picked us up at the hotel at 2 AM (yikes!) and drove us up all the way to the top. Even though it was almost 80 degrees the whole time we were in Hawai`i, the temperature at the top of the summit was a chilly 30 degrees! We bundled up pretty well but I was still pretty cold!
Before the sun rose, the stars were absolutely incredible. I have never felt like I was closer to the stars before! They were completely surrounding us and it was a really beautiful experience. Then, we saw the light of the sun begin to color the horizon. From there, it took about another hour for the sun to finally peek over, but once it did, boy was it spectacular, as you can see in the photo!! They had some native Hawai`ians singing a traditional chant as the sun grew brighter.
The fluffy stuff at the bottom of the picture that looks like snow are actually clouds! So that shows you how far up we were! The oxygen was actually really thin up there so it was a bit difficult to breathe. But it was certainly worth being cold and out of breath to see such a beautiful sight! Once the sun came all the way up, we actually hopped on bikes and rode our way down! It was a lot of fun! :)
Have you ever seen the sunrise? Would you like to see it from the top of a volcano?
