Known as the "Cidade de Berço" (Cradle City) of Portugal, Guimarães is a fascinating place to visit and has been classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. The most important points are to visit the Castle, the Palacio dos Duques and the beautifully preserved medieval quarter. Guimarães is a maze of winding alleys lined with old houses dating from the Middle Ages that lead to the main square, the Praça da Oliveira and then guides us to the fabulous Castle and Palacio dos Duques. In 2012, Guimarães is the European Capital of Culture. These are more than enough reasons to visit Guimaraes.
