About a month ago my husband and I went to the Grand Canyon. We had wanted to the Skywalk, but didn`t plan accordingly, nor knew how large the Canyon actually was. Its massive by the way. It took us about 7 hours and that was only seeing 2 sections. The South Rim, and the East Rim. Those 7 hours didn`t even include going to all of the view points offered.
The Desert View Watchtower was on our to see list. It was a must for us. The Watchtower is the most developed area in the east point. It was built in 1932. The tower is 70` tall and houses a gift shop, and has several floors and observation decks for its visitors. The inside of the tower is beautifully painted with intricate wall murals. The tower is built in a circular structure. It has staircases along the wall allowing you to climb to the top. The tower itself is a large open area, where one can look at each floor below from the previous, upper floor. The only section that is enclosed is the very top ceiling of the tower. The very last and top floor has telescopes one can use to view the Painted Canyon which is located around the tower. It was absolutely beautiful to see.
The 1st image up to the Desert View Grand Canyon image are all of the Watchtower and the surrounding canyon. The other images are from the points leading up to it.
The points leading up to the tower were equally as beautiful and breath taking. My husband actually climed down a few, but I was too scared to do so. I just sat back and snapped away.
While it was tiring, I would do it all over again. The Grand Canyon gets many, many visitors and I can see why. Seeing images of it is nothing like seeing it up close and personal.
The cost was $25 with our car to get in. The $25 covers an entire week. So if you can`t see it all in one day, which I think is impossible, you can always come back within the week with your reciept or pass.
Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? Which section did you see? Would you like to visit?
Images are my own.
