"The film that changed forever the history of Hollywood cinema," as it was dubbed by the critics, "Gone with the Wind" is the screening of the novel with same name written by Margaret Mitchell. Winner of nine Academy Awards, including those for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role(Vivien Leigh) and Best Director(Victor Fleming), the film has left its mark on generations of good qualitymovie consumers.
The story is set in Atlanta Georgia, in the southern United States, during the American Civil War of 1861-1865. It is a powerful psychological study of how romantic love can go distrastrously wrong. This classic film tells the love story between Scarlett O`Hara and Rhett Butler during the one of the most important moments in American history, the Civil War. It is the story of a selfish woman who does not want to admit feelings to the man she loves. This ego finally turns against her and shes loses the one she always loved, Rhet Butler( Clark Gable).
Gone With the Wind deserves its reputation who has been created over the years around it. I dont want to say that it is"the most beautiful love story of all time," but I just want to say that it COULD be. The story is perfectly complemented by the performances of all main actors: from Vivien Leigh to Hattie McDaniel, the first black woman to receive Oscar, actors that where directed by Victor Fleming, that succeding in building an artistic but realistic ambient.
I consider it to be a 5-star film, a masterpiece even, and I think will always remain known as one of the epic movies of Old Hollywood.
