I`m Shanghainese, even though I was born in Hong Kong. Both my mum and dad are Shanghainese, with the exception of my grandma on my dad`s side. She`s from Hong Kong.
These photos were taken by myself when I was in Shanghai for a visit to see my grandparents on my mum`s side.
Shanghai is one of China`s growing cities because it is next to a port hence a lot of businesses have opened up there, especially on the island of Pudong.
Think of Pudong as the metropolitan downtown. It`s where all the foreigners, expats, travellers go and where all the big businesses are. Puxi, where my grandparents live, are considered suburban. The photos are from Pudong.
The first photo shows the Oriental Pearl tower. It used to be one of the world`s tallest freestanding skyscrapers. I`m not quite sure where its ranking is now. It`s like the Toronto CN Tower where you have an observation deck and restaurant at the top. I actually know some of the architects who built it =)
The second photo is down at the city when I was waiting in a taxi. It shows some of the huge buildings we have there on top of Pudong.
Actually, Pudong is an island that is man-made, which is why when you have too many heavy buildings, it starts to sink, which is what it is doing slowly now.
Have you guys been to Shanghai?
