Ginger bread Elves

- 6 cups all purpose-flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg
-1 tsp vanilla extract

- Sift together the flour,ginger,baking powder,nutmeg,cloves,and cinnamon
- In a medium bowl, mix together the shortening molasses ,brown sugar,water,egg,and vanilla until smooth
- slowly stir in the dry ingredients, until they are absorbed. Divide dough into three pieces pat down into 2 inches thickness wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least three hours
- preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
- Lightly flour a cutting board,then roll one piece of dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. use gingerbread cookie cutter for the body. Then cut out a triangle from the dough and place on top of cookie for hat
- Place cookies 1 inch apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet
- Bake for 10-12 minutes
- when the cookies are done they will look dry, but still be soft to touch
- Remove from the baking sheet to cool on wire racks,When cool the cookies can be frosted to your own design.
