I got suckered into doing the 10K 5 peaks trail run in Calgary`s Olympic Park next weekend. The run I am doing is a combination of double track, forest trails, & ski runs. It is where the Winter Olympics in 1988 were held. I know where the park is and have only driven by it to get to the mountains and there`s a giant ski jump tower as shown in picture 2 that you can`t miss. Since this isn`t a normal 10K run and is on trails I went out and bought the Merrell Siren Sport shoes which said they are for hiking or multi sports, but I tried them out in the store and they are really comfy and will be good for running as well and have Vibram Sole and Q-Form® Comfort midsole provides womens specific stride-sequenced cushioning. I am hoping to get this trail run done in less than an 1 hour and 30 minutes. I will have to see since a lot of it is uphill to the ski jump which will take me quite a while. Otherwise if it was just a normal 10K I`d probably be able to get it done is about 1 hour.
I have been doing a lot more squats, lunges, jump lunges, jump squats, calf raises, and dead lifts to try and get my legs into better shape for this lately. I have also been running 45-60 minutes every other day for the past two weeks to get me ready cardiovascularly. I use to run so it doesn`t take a lot for me to get back into the shape I need to be in for running. If you were training for a run I recommend you look at Jeff Galloway`s site for training. I normally just walk 20 minutes a day, but since the man`s coworkers all signed up for it I didn`t want to be the only one not partaking in this so I started running lol. As of right now I do not get sore from running and I am sure going uphill with this run will make it burn bad, which is why me and the man will go for a 90 minute massage in the afternoon together lol. Wish me luck and pray I won`t fall down the hill where the ski jump is lol.
Have you ever done a 10K before or any sort of trail running?
Picture is mine and you do not have permission to use it
