Getting in shapes and staying healthy

Hello everyone, I have decided to join a gym I really want to change my lifestyle for the good of it. I want to be healthy and fit. Lately, I started thinking of all the diseases my family has and how I can possibly inherit them but I know that if I start eating healthy and exercising I can lower the chances of getting these diseases.
I joined a gym that is very near me, what I like about this gym is that it is made specifically for women all the machine are women friendly and the trainers are very nice. They also offer classes ranging from step and tone, kickboxing, yoga, cardio, 20/20/20, Zumba, and body sculpt. I think this is fantastic because they have so many varieties that it is hard to get bored from doing the same thing over and over.
On my first day I warmed up for about 15 minutes on a treadmill than I joined the step and tone class. A day later and I am super sore on my legs which I am hoping is a good thing.
I have also started eating way healthier I cut absolutely all candy and sugar out of my life. I am eating more fruits and I am also drinking a lot of water. I have replaced all juice with water and so far I have been feeling great. I also eat less amounts of what I normally eat and try to stay away from fatty and unhealthy food. Its been about 7 months since the last time I had a fast food meal from Taco bell or McDonald. Its hard at first to stay away from the bad things but I know if you try hard enough it will pay off.
