Im sure many of you have heard of the show DC Cupcakes on TLC. The show follows 2 sisters and their day to day lives running a cupcake store in the Georgetown neighbourhood in Washington DC. I actually spent my summer in DC last year, and recently went back to visit some friends there. One of the things we did while I was visiting, was go Georgetown Cupcake for some fantastic sweet treats.
Georgetown Cupcake is known for its crazy long lines and if you have never been to DC, you will know that it gets really hot and humid, so standing outside for anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour for some cupcakes is kind of insane. But thats how popular the cupcakes are.
We happened to luck out when we went, because we got in line with only 20 people in front of us, and I swear, less than 5 minutes later, the line behind me was at least 40 more people.
One thing I could appreciate is that the staff was very nice and tried to make the entire process as smooth and quick as possible so people wouldnt be waiting for any longer than they needed to. They handed out menus with that days cupcakes listed, so you know what flavours are ready. They also pass out cold water to all the people waiting outside which is very nice of them.
I bought 4 cupcakes to share with my friends. We ended up getting 2 peanut butter fudge cupcakes (chocolate cupcake with fudge in the centre, topped with peanut butter frosting and more fudge drizzled on top), 1 red velvet (classic red velvet with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a red heart), and 1chocolate and vanilla (chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and chocolate sprinkles).
I had a peanut butter one, since I love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate, and it was DIVINE! So messy to eat, since we ate in a nearby park and it was melting in the heat, but it was absolutely delicious! Next time I go to visit, I know to call ahead and place an order, since those people get to jump the line! LOL
If you are ever in the DC area, you should def. check them out!
