General Tsos Chicken
My parents and sister were away for a few weeks, leaving just me and my brother at home.
It gave me an opportunity to try some new dishes and ideas at home since my brother is a perfect test subject - he`s the least picky eater in the house lol.
I found a small pack of seasoning to make General Tsao`s Chicken, and since that is my brother`s favourite dish when we go out for Chinese food, I thought it would be cool to try.
The package had simple instructions that were easy to follow. You take your chicken and cut it into chunks. You then transfer to a plastic bag and add some flour and shake until they are coated. Next, you fry off the chicken until it is nice and golden.
While the chicken is cooking, you can go ahead and make the sauce. You take the package and combine with some soy sauce, water and some sugar. You can also add some hot sauce or chili flakes if you want to make it even more spicy.
Once the chicken is cooked through, you add the sauce mixture and very quickly it will thicken up and create this amazing sauce that is very similar to the sauces you will find at a restaurant.
I served it with some noodles and some quick stir fry veggies, and my brother loved it! Despite the fact that I made enough for him to take to work the next day, he ate most of it in one sitting!
Considering the packet only costs 2 or 3 dollars, and is enough for a pound of chicken, I think I may make this at home again for my entire family :)
