Friendly House Gyros dinner
I`m back with another review of another gyros at another local restaurant. It seems like lately I`ve been on a real gyros fix, and I`ve been trying different versions at different restaurants across the city!
This time, I hit up a diner very close to where I live called The Friendly House. This is a 24hr diner style restaurant with definite Greek influence. So while they serve up classics like burgers and chicken fingers, the real gems are their Greek dishes.
The decor is not much to look at, and the place is pretty old, but the more important part is the food.
I ordered a gyros dinner with Greek Salad and fries to go. The salad was standard but with a killer homemade dressing that made it extra yummy. They also put the dressing on the fries as well, which was an awesome touch. And even though I took the fries to go, they stayed crisp even after being bathed in dressing, since they had been cooked very well.Mmmmmm
But onto the star of the meal, the gyros! The gyros doesn`t seem to be made on the traditional spit, which is my favourite, but it was still very good. They took their time cooking each slice on the flat top which gave it a nice crust. The generous portion was then covered in a delicious tzatziki that was super garlicky but not over-powering.
Even though the gyros wasn`t made on a spit, it was still delicious. Still doesn`t beat my favourite gyros in the city at Esquire restaurant, but it is definitely a great choice especially for late night cravings :).
