The other day a friend and I finally went to the famous Fentons Creamery in North Oakland. For those of you who don`t know what Fentons is, its the ice cream shop in the movie Up.

We got the White and Tan based on the waiters suggestion. He mentioned that their toasted almond was one of the more popular flavors so we figured we`d give it a try.

Basically its two giant scoops of ice cream, toasted almond and vanilla. Topped with hot fudge and caramel. On top of that are chopped almonds sprinkled all over. Then finally, whip cream and a cherry on top. All that for $12 and enough to feed 3-4 people.

So how is the ice cream? Overall, the texture is very smooth and creamy. The caramel is not overly sweet so it did not overpower the flavor of the ice cream. The hot fudge was of course delicious with the ice cream. The almonds gave a little bit of texture. The toasted almond ice cream however, I was very unimpressed by. The reason is because, it tasted like powdered almond mix mixed into ice cream. The taste was kind of artificial.

Overall, pretty good. Will definitely come back to try other flavors and even possibly the food. The regular size is way too much for 2 people so remember to bring extra friends. Or opt for the junior size which is actually cheaper.

Have you guys ever tried Fentons? Have you guys seen the movie Up? And what is your favorite ice cream flavor?
