Hey everyone, I`m back from my little break in Spain :) it was short but it was worthed. I might post some pics of what I hauled over there..not much but the purchases I made are a bit significant for me as I`ve been searching lots for these items or something similar to them. Anyhow, this is the last part of the Fashionable guide to Spring 2012 and this time we`ll be talking about pastels.
http://Ellecanada.com provided us with some tips on how to wear pastel shades this Spring and which I totally agree with:
`1. Don`t get too sweet - The pale yellow gingham skirt and jacket ensemble paired with an oversized lace collar and crystal headband may have worked for teenage model Lida Fox on Louis Vuitton`s runway - especially set against the backdrop of an enchanting vintage carousel - but in real life, one might look like a cupcake shop employee. On a similar note, skip on a ruched or ruffled pieces as they might appear a bit juvenile or prom-like.
2. Layer using clean lines - That`s not to say that one can`t wear sugar hues head-to-toe. Phillip Lim made the colour combination of cantaloupe pants, lavender blouse, pistachio cream jacket and baby blue sandals seem like elegant summer office attire. Clean lines are the trick to layering these powdery hues into a complete ensemble. Take for example, Preen`s pale yellow pant suit paired with just a simple white tee.
3. Mix pastels and neutrals - Adding a dose of neutral can help balance out the girly nature of pastels. Diane Von Furstenberg combined her cantaloupes and mints with neutrals like dark chocolate brown and oatmeal. Her Spring 2012 collection is filled with sporty pastel seperates, making it very easy to mix into one`s existing wardrobe. Similarly, Phillip Lim inserted a lot of greys and khakis for a more casual approach. Chanel mixed basic blacks with its sea world inspired hues.`
I think these are the main points one should keep in mind when one wants to try out the pastels trend this Spring/Summer. There`s also the option of incorporating pastel hues in your accessories first rather than going full-on to the pastel clothing dept. You can try out mint satchel bags, peachy toned sunglasses or even lilac heels.
