In 2011, I decided that it was time to do something bold. At first, I was simply going to braid the sides of my head for a Don Omar concert, but I had seen Wiz Kalifah`s video for "Roll Up" and remembered the girl in his video had both sides of her head shaved and she looked beautiful! I wanted to do the same thing.
Now growing up I had major anxiety when it came to my hair. When I was about 5, it was all cut off to prevent from lice. In school I was picked on because I looked like a little boy. From that point on I would scream if anyone went within 10 ft of me with a pair of scissors. When I was in 8th grade, I had grown out my hair and went to have it cut and styled for my 8th grade prom. The girl who had cut my hair was a student and ruined my hair so a master stylist had to step in and take off alot of length to fix the girl`s error. After that, I didn`t let a single person touch my hair.
As I sat in the barbershop, everyone looked at me like I was crazy. Here I am, the lightest skinned girl in that shop and I was shaving half my head. The barber was used to doing designs on guys, and I asked for one as well. The result became something more than I ever imagined. Not only did I have this amazing unique hairstyle, but I had so much hair that I could easily cover it up when I wanted to. This style became apart of the new me that I wanted to blossom. It only got better from there
