I`m late to the game with Essie`s French Affair. I didn`t buy it when it first came out because, honestly, I didn`t think I would like the color. It didn`t impress me in the bottle and even in swatches, so I just passed on it and bought the colors that did jump out at me. As the months went buy and I saw more and more swatches I decided I did want it after all. The problem? The supply house didn`t have it any more, drugstores didn`t have them (at least not that I saw), and I didn`t want to order online for a creme pink. Well, I did end up seeing a couple drugstores have the random bottle or two later but they were full retail price which didn`t appeal to me. I didn`t like the color enough to justify spending $8.00 for it. Just recently with all of the stores pushing old product from the shelves and clearancing them out, I spotted ONE lone bottle of French Affair and it had a clearance sticker on it marking it down to the price I would pay at the supply store. (in the voice of those silly birds in Finding Nemo) MINE! Essie describes French Affair as a sophisticated soft lavender pink. Actually, that is pretty spot on! It is a very soft, pastel shade. In some lights it looks like a powdery, baby pink and others you can see the hints of lavender in it, making it a non clean, crisp pink. It is a creme finish, which I typically love. I don`t think it was executed perfectly here, though. It comes off sort of chalky and you can see streaking through the layers. I have on two coats here and I can see faint bald patches. I think a third coat would have fixed this, but with the consistency also being a bit on the thicker side, I didn`t think it would be wise to put a third coat on. I feared it would be too much and would end up peeling away like polishes tend to do when they are too thickly piled on. I`m glad I didn`t buckle and buy it full price. While I do like it and I am glad I have it, it isn`t love. I will continue to wear it and I already have some designs in mind featuring it, but I`m just not as excited as I thought I would be.
