I was recently in NY/NJ for my cousin`s wedding. I had flown in a few days early so I could help with the wedding preparations. I also stuck around a few days afterward to help with clean up and to do some shopping :)
One of the stores I was interested in visiting for the first time was the ELF flagship store in Manhattan.
I`m sure almost all of you have heard of ELF cosmetics, and that many of you have even tried their products, but did you know they have their own store?
I had seen a few items on the website and even here on Luuux that I was curious to try including the new Smudge Pot s. I was also hoping to find out if they still had a version of the Studio Bronzer and blush duo that doesn`t contain any shimmer. The first duo I bought years ago was my go to - the one that people said was a dupe for the Nars Laguna and Orgasm blush/bronzer duo. But the new ones are not nearly as nice, and way to shimmery to contour with.
I was surprised and a little disappointed to find out that the selection in stores was not even close to the selection online. They didn`t carry all the products you would find online, and the products they did carry had a very poor colour selection.
For example, the store only had 3 shades of the smudge pot s: Pearls of Wisdom, Back to Basics and Ain`t that Sweet. I was really excited to try the deep purple and the blue, but they were nowhere to be found.
They did have a Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick in Check Me Out - a deep plum shade. The employees said that the eyeshadow stick was comparable to the smudge pot s but easier to use since it is in stick form. I decided to buy one to test out. Expect a review soon.
As for a non shimmery bronzer, there was nothing in store. However, they suggested I try the new Pressed Mineral Foundation in a darker shade since it was great for contouring. As soon as I swatched it, I was sold. It had a really, fine and smooth finish. I was also considering buying it in my own shade to use as a powder foundation, but again, the colour selection was disappointing, and I the shade I needed was out of stock.
While I am happy with the items I got, I already placed an online order with some of the items I wasn`t able to get. Luckily, they had their 50% off everything in the site when I placed my order, so I was able to save on that. I will post that online haul once I get through the backlog of posts I have from my summer travels! :P
