Next on my tour of must see buildings of North Carolina brings us to Duke Chapel. Located in the center of the Duke University Campus in Durham, North Carolina, Duke Chapel is built in the Collegiate Gothic style and is one of the tallest buildings in Durham. It`s is the largest Methodist Chapel in the southern US and can seat up to 1,800 people at one time. The Chapel is open to the public and even has it`s own tour, however the Chapel is not open when events and such are going on or on Sundays when it`s being used for Church Services. The Chapel is one of the best places to get married.... if you can afford the use of the building during that time. The bell tower of the Chapel also contains the most bells of any building in North Carolina. However the bell tower is no open to the public. Duke Chapel is also the burial place of Washington Duke and his two sons, James B. Duke and Benjamin N. Duke in the Memorial Chapel on the left side of the building, which is not open to the Public either. There is also a crypt below the church which contains several of the College`s presidents and their wives over the year. The crypt is only open to the public at certain times of the year. So if you`d like to take a tour of one of the most beautiful churches in North Carolina then Duke Chapel is the perfect place to come.
