DOTN - The towering `kraut Burger

This was what I concocted for dinner last night! We had hamburger that I had purchased from the market in the refrigerator. Instead of having plain run of the mill hamburgers, I decided to spice it up by adding in a new flavor. I formed my patties and put them into the pan, seasoned them with some hamburger seasoning and left them alone while they cooked. I`m big on not moving hamburgers while they cook because otherwise you have this dry hard piece of meat and nobody likes that!

While the burgers were cooking, I heated a skillet that I sprayed with Pam. I added in a half of a large onion that I sliced and let them start to cook on low. When cooking I moved it to medium and let them brown, then added in a drop of water to keep them from burning. When the water cooked out, I then added in my canned sauerkraut that I had drained and squeezed all the water from. I added in some spray butter because I didn`t want to use real butter and cooked it it through to warm the `kraut.

Serving, I used standard hamburger rolls, layered on sliced tomato and lettuce, topped it with the burger, which I then put spicy mustard on and hot relish. I then topped it with the sauerkraut mixture and put the other bread on it. It was DELICIOUS! Such a great twist on a classic hamburger. Since we have some leftover, I`ll be having that for my lunch -- but adding another twist to it!
