DOTD-Codfish Cakes

Today my mother decided to cook one more Portuguese dish that in my opinion can almost be considered traditional...

Those little things that you see above are codfish cakes, that here in Portugal are known as "Pasteis de Bacalhau"... As the name say, their main ingredient is codfish... I mean, codfish supposedly is the main ingredient, but there are different versions and depending on the price, some of them have more or less quantity of codfish. The more expensive they are, the more codfish they`ll have and, obviously, the more delicious they`ll be.

A lot of people here in Portugal knows how to cook those from the scratch, but my mother don`t... So she always buys pre-cooked ones. These pre-cooked ones are really simple to cook... you only need a frying pan with boiling oil, then you put the codfish cakes inside, wait some minutes and they are ready to eat.

These are really good and they can be ate with a lot of different side dishes, since fries until white rice... You just have to be creative. Tonight my mother cooked some rice with tomato sauce as a side dish and the combination was really good.

I don`t know if these kind of codfish cakes exist in your country or if you ever tried them, but if you didn`t, you really need to.
