I am a coffee and soda drinker, so my teeth do get stained from the beverages I choose to drink. Now on the flip side, I have sensitive gums. I have used the Crest whitening strips in the past and even though they DO work, they DO make my gums irritated to the point it hurts to drink, talk, etc. Ive talked to my dentist about this in the past and was told its a natural reaction for those who have sensitive gums, although if I wanted to continue to use them I could space them out instead of using every day, use every other. I tried that and it wasnt working (meaning it still hurt). I dont like pain associated with my teeth/mouth so I nixed the white strips all together and now have two boxes of the darn things that are just sitting there. BUT I do have a substitute that I feel works even better. Whitening mouth wash and whitening toothpaste used together in unison. After the first use you can see a noticeable difference and after use for a week, its even more noticeable. The best results are seen after 14-days.
The two products I use personally and have seen great results from are: Listerines Whitening mouth and Crest 3D white toothpaste. You are to take a capful of mouthwash and swish it in your mouth for 60 seconds before spitting it out. It does get foamy from swishing (which also means its working) and it will leave a filmy taste on your tongue, but this is the reason you use it first because its helping rid your teeth of the surface stains, etc. When you brush your teeth the filmy coating will go away because you are just brushing it away. I then take my electric toothbrush and put some Crest 3D white toothpaste on it and brush for 1-2 minutes. If I dont have much time and I need to hurry, I go with 1 minute, but if I can stand there and really focus on my brushing I go up to 2 sometimes 2 1/2 minutes. Brushing the whitening toothpaste after the mouthwash really helps boost the white and shine on your teeth.
You can use the Crest 3D White Multi-Care Whitening Rinse white mouthwash, it works just as good as the Listerine, but the Listerine is just what I happen to enjoy more. I like Listerine not only because their whitening mouthwash has a minty flavor to it, but Listerine also helps cure bad breath, etc. Im not saying my breath stinks, but Id rather have a minty smelling mouth than one that smells like whitening mouthwash.
Heres a little more information on the two products:
Listerine Whitening Pre-Brush Rinse.
- This is a pre-brush rinse which means you use this product for 60 seconds PRIOR to brushing
- Recommended to use twice a day (morning & night), but no more than twice a day
- Antiseptic mouth rinse so it kills bad breath germs
- Penetrates teeth to help prevent stain build up and to whiten your teeth
- Comes in a Cool Mint flavor
- Provides a noticeable difference after each use
Crest 3D White Advanced Vivid Stain Protection Toothpaste
- Whitens up to 90% of surface stains in 14 days
- Toothpaste gently polishes away stains, but also helps protect against new ones
- Has a foaming action, so the whitening agent surrounds all teeth
- Paste is clear with a few streaks of white in it
- Virtually tasteless
As Ive mentioned, the two of these in unison are just magic on my teeth! My dentist doesnt think I need a professional tooth whitening (I was asking him about it hah) and he suggested I just use the strips, but since those dont work for me, I found this has worked the best and has given me the best results.
Do you have a tooth whitening regiment that you follow?
Have you used either of these products?
Image is mine do not take or use. Thank you.
