I`m taking a break from my Buffalo shopping hauls in order to share a quick and easy Christmas DIY with you all!
I wanted to make some personalized ornaments for my little cousins this year, to add to the toys and other presents my mom already bought.
My family is Armenian, and we actually celebrate Christmas on January 6th, based on the old Julian calendar. But we have such a large family, we end up exchanging gifts at family gatherings as we go along during the holidays lol.
So some of the cousins are planning to get together on the 27th, so I made these ornaments to give to some of my younger cousins then. If you are wondering why you don`t recognize any of the characters, it`s because they are Armenian letters - I used each child`s initial :)
It`s actually a very easy DIY, and one that is fun to do with family, especially on Christmas day when you are cooped up inside. And best of all, it only needs simple things to complete.
I used some plastic ornaments from the dollar store, and also used some acrylic paint and white glue, paint brushes, as well as a fine tip permanent marker.
I actually found a tip suggesting that you mix the paint with a little bit of white glue to help it stick to the plastic/glass properly. I needed to apply a few layers to get the colour opaque, but each layer only took a few minutes to dry. I found laying the surface down with newspaper was useful, and I placed the ornaments in plastic cups so their wouldn`t roll around the work surface while they dried. I decided to outline the letters in black to make them more visible.
I got so into it, I ended up personalizing some other ornaments we had. Our tree has a red and gold colour theme, so I painted some plain red ornaments with gold paint. Some I used to create the first initial of my family members, and for others, I free handed a filigree design with gold paint, and followed with the black marker once dry. I also have some self adhesive crystals that I used to decorate some of the other ornaments. That`s the best part about this DIY - you can use existing craft supplies and ornaments to make them more special!
