DIY: MAKE YOUR OWN WAX STRIPS

DIY: SUGAR WAX

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
¼ cup water
¼ cup lemon juice

Method
1. Pour the sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan, and heat it over a low flame.
2. Keep stirring the mixture until all the sugar has melted, and you have a thick brown liquid.
3. Let it cool slightly.

How do you know it is done? If you can still see sugar particles in the wax, the hair will probably not come out and you would need to re-cook the wax. Take a glass of water and put a drop of wax into it. If it disperses then its not ready. If the globule dips to the bottom of the glass and retains shape its done.

Waxing strips:
Take an old pair of Jeans. Cut them into strips that are about 3 inches in width, 6 inches in length. Remember these are eco friendly and reusable. Since the wax is completely water soluble you can just throw them in the washing machine and you can reuse them! Denim provides a better grip and easier to hold and yank. It has much less chances of ingrown hair.
NOTE: The inner facing fabric of the jeans should be the one touching your skin otherwise if you use the opposite side, your skin will probably get blue with the denim color.

Waxing technique
1. Test the temperature before applying the wax to your skin. It should be hot, but not scalding, or you can burn yourself.
2. Prep your skin with talcum/baby powder.
3. Once the wax has cooled slightly, test it on your finger. Blow on it to cool it with your breath and apply it to your skin with a butter knife, in the direction of hair growth.
4. Place the denim strip on the wax and yank it against the direction of hair growth.
5. Wipe the area clean with a cold cloth after you`ve finished waxing.
6. You could also apply ice to the waxed area, to close and tighten pores.
7. You may notice that your skin has turned red, or that you have tiny bumps on the skin immediately after waxing. This is a normal reaction, and the redness and bumps should disappear within an hour. Applying a moisturizer or soothing lotion will help.

Benefits of waxing:
1. Lasts a lot longer that store bought wax
2. Completely natural
3. Completely water soluble
4. If done well, no ingrowths
5. Lasts much longer than shaving or hair removal creams
6. Good for your skin - wax is considered really good for removing a tan and sugar in it is a natural scrub.

8. Hair that grows back is never prickly
9. Over time reduces hair growth.
