DIY Fruit Smoothie
It has been really hot in Toronto lately, and I love having ice cream, milkshakes and other cool foods and drinks in order to cool off.
I was experiencing another one of our heat waves this week, but I knew that having too much ice cream and milkshakes is not exactly healthy, so I needed a better alternative. So with this in mind, I decided to raid my fridge to see if I could find the makings of a smoothie instead.
Smoothies are actually really easy to make, and when you make them yourself, its easy to control what is going in it.
I started off with some ice in my blender. We also had some frozen strawberries in the fridge, so I popped those in my blender as well (sorry I forgot to take a picture of this stuff).
Next I looked in the fridge to see what other fruit we had. My mom had laid out a platter of raspberries, and blueberries that were very ripe, and need to be eaten in the next few days, so I decided to grab handfuls of each and pop them in the blender as well. There was also a container of pineapple, so I cut up some cubes of pineapple and tossed them in the blender too. I like to add some yogurt to my smoothies since it makes them a lot creamier, so I added a serving of Activia Vanilla yogurt to the mix as well (yogurt also adds some protein). Lastly, I added a splash of juice in order to help blend the ice.
Start blending the smoothie and add more juice as necessary. Once you are done, just pour into a glass and enjoy!
