The Summer is officially over and if you love to BBQ as much as I do, you probably have a few packages of bamboo bbq skewers left over. Usually I push them to the back of my pantry as soon as the Summer is over, but this time I thought I would put them to use in a less convential way.
Sunburst mirror have been really popular with home decorators since the beginning of time. Not only are they a timeless piece to own, they easily add the drama needed to any room.
As you may have noticed, the walls in my new living room where completely naked and boring. I needed something tp make them interesting without breaking the bank. I already purchased a gorgeous sunburst mirror at Homegoods today to place over my tv, but I still needed something to hang up on the large bare naked wall.
Sunburst mirrors can cost anywhere from $50-$500+ It is nearly impossible to find one for under $50. The cheapest one I found was a target and it was really small. Luckily, thanks to the blog world of wonderful DIYers, I found some pretty cool ideas on how to make my own sunburst mirror using inexpensive things.
This entire project cost me less than $2 to make! (not including paint and glue)
What you will need:
Pack of 100 bbq skewers (I purchased mine at Walmart for 75 cents)
Round 5 inch circle mirror (I found mine at dollar tree)
Gluesticks for glue gun
Spray paint of choice (optional but highly recommended, I used Krylon silver metallic paint)
All you need to do is glue all the bamboo skewers to the back of the mirror. Make sure you use every single skewer and apply a lot of glue. This only took me about 20 minutes to complete. After you are done you can either stop right here or paint it the color of your choice. I went with a metallic silver.
The result, a beautiful and chic piece for under $2. I made two of these but I am thinking of making more for other rooms in my house.
I am absolutely pleased with how they turned out. I am also very pleased with how much money I saved. I saw one similar to this for over $100 !!
Let me know if you decide to try this!
Sorry about the bad lighting!
