As much as I love to DIY, I cannot sew for the life of me. For years I`ve dreamt of owning a sewing machine so I can make all sorts of things. However, sewing machines are quite expensive and I doubt I will use it as often as I keep telling myself I will. Lets face it, not everyone was born to be a seamstress and although I am quite savvy with other domestic chores, sewing is not one of them.
There must have been a genius out there who was a crappy sewer like myself because they thought of the best thing ever since sliced bread. Iron on hem tape! Iron on hem tape is great for quick and easy no sew projects such as the one I am going to share with you today.
I found a coupon on retail me not for 20% your entire purchase at Joanns Fabrics. So I thought to myself, "those pillows of mine are starting to bore me...it`s time for a change". If you are familiar with the cost of throw pillows, you very well no that they are not cheap. Especially if you need more than one to decorate your couch, bed or whatever you use throw pillows for. Which is why I decided to check out Joanns to see if they had any fabric that caught my eye and sure enough I found this gorgeous black and white fabric.
Being the rookie that I am, I didn`t even measure the pillows I was going to cover prior to making my fabric purchase but I decided to wing it. Luckily 1 yard was just enough to cover two medium sized throw pillows.
What you will need to make your own no sew pillows:
Pillow or filling (I used the filling of some old throw pillows I had)
First I measured the exact amount I was going to use. The I fold the ends to create a nice hem. I used the iron to press on the iron on hem. Once I did 3 out of the 4 sides, I stuffed the pillow case with the old pillow I planned to use. Then once the pillow was inside, I finished hemming the last side of the pillow.
You can even use an old t-shirt to make your pillow covers for a more funky and original conversation piece.
I love how my two pillow covers turned out. They look great on my neutral couch. Throw pillows are great for dressing up boring neutral furniture!
Now if only I knew how to sew.....oh the possibilities. That`s it...I need to get a sewing machine! But for now, hem tape is truly amazing!
Let me know if you decide to make this. Have you ever made your own throw pillows.
