Hello lovely Luuuxers!
For my friend`s birthday, a group of my girlfriends and I went to a Mexican restaurant downtown that I have heard raves about! I was starving, and I am glad to say that this restaurant did NOT disappoint! In fact, I think this is the best Mexican food I have ever tried! My friends all agreed...when I asked my one friend how she enjoyed her dish, all she could say was that "her life has been changed forever"! Hah!
Instead of getting one entree, I decided to order two appetizers instead, since I am way too indecisive! I figured that I would probably end up coming back here eventually and could try the other items on the menu. My first order was the Guacamole Trio, which had the following guacamole types:
-Rojo (with sundried tomatoes, roasted onion, and red jalapeno salsa) <--my favorite!
-Fruta (with mango, guava, habanero and crushed walnuts)
I am a HUGE fan of guacamole, and a good guacamole will make me rave about any restaurant! They were served with a basket with three different kinds of chips for dipping: corn chips, sweet plantain chips, and malanga chips. I loved how I could pair the different guacamole flavors with the different types of chips for a lot of variety!
Then, my second dish was the Empanadas con Platanos Fritos, which were, according to the menu, "plantain dough turnovers filled with black beans, fresco cheese and diced plantains, served over tangy tomatillo salsa ; garnished with fresco cheese and sour cream". These. Were. INCREDIBLE. They weren`t super big, but they were so rich and satisfying that I was stuffed. I loved how the plantain dough and filling gave it a sweet taste, the beans made it more savory, and the tomatillo salsa made it tangy as well. The flavors came together marvelously. I could eat seriously eat these every day!
Finally, of course, we had to get margaritas!! The margaritas at this restaurant were, by far, the greatest margaritas I`ve ever tried! We got a pitcher of Mango-Passion margarita, which had Don Julio Blanco tequila, triple sec, and mango-passion juice! Topped off with a salted rim, it was heavenly!
Do you love Mexican food too? Are any of these your favorite dishes? Are you a fan of margaritas?
