One day while in Hawaii my whole family and I attended a luau! There are so many luaus to attend but the one we chose was the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui which is supposedly one of the best and most traditional luaus in Maui. Besides the show and activities they had we of course ate dinner here! The food was a buffet and there is also an open bar. Once you enter the venue you are greeted with a lei and a beverage weather it was juice or a mai tai cocktail. We took full advantage of that open bar that night, but we like to think of it as getting out moneys worth because it is very pricey. As a starter our server started us out with a platter of banana bread and fresh slices of pineapple. The dinner was buffet and everything they had was all traditional Hawaiian food. I had a little but of everything and it was all very delicious. As you can see on my dinner plate it is a mix of everything but here is what I got starting from the left and going around the plate: local style fried rice, island style chicken, stir fry veggies, Pulehu Steak, maui style mahi mahi, island crab salad, Kalua Puaa (pork), salad with a maui onion dressing, watermelon, taro bread, poi, warm purple sweet potato.
We were also served a dessert platter which included macadamia nut tarts, macadamia coconut brownies, guava custard and some sort of coconut jello and at the end of the night as a little gift they gave everyone a bag with a small loaf of their freshly baked banana bread to ever single person (not pictured).
Overall the food was good and so was the entertainment. The service was also great with our server and with all the employees there. The open bar area ran smoothly and there wasnt a long like which was good. Its a pricey luau but Id recommend it to anyone going to maui.
