New York cop John McClane goes to Los Angeles to spend the winter holidays with his family. After a long flight, he goes to the Nakatomi Corporation building to attend the Christmas party with his wife.
Bruce Willis plays the unconventional New York detective, John McClane, whom the circumstances make the only one who is able to rescue a group of hostages, trapped in a skyscraper in Los Angeles, along with his wife.
Citing political reasons, the terrorist organization that has taken over the Nakatomi building threatens the authorities with killing the hostages if they do not settle their demands. In fact, the organization led by Hans Gruber is two-fold: to steal 600 million dollars locked in a high-performance safe located in the building and to kill all hostages.
Desperate to save his wife, McClane decides to face the terrorists alone, after the murder of Joseph Takagi, his wifes boss. John manages to outmaneuver the terrorists with the help of Sergeant Al Powell that will provide useful information outside of the building
Allan Rickman brilliantly portrays the main villain of this movie, German terrorist Hans Gruber. His performance in Die Hard earned Rickman a spot on the AFI`s 100 years...100 Heroes & Villains as the 46th best villain in film history.
This blockbuster movie transformed Bruce Willis into a superstar overnight, and it was the most watched movie in 1988 with revenues of over 80 million U.S. $.
This first movie from the Die Hard series is one of my favourites. My dads too. It`s a classic already and will certainly go down in movie history as one of the best action movie.
