I picked this book up from the library because I was in the mood for a mystery that was also a cutesy type of book. This fit the bill perfectly. It is the 14th book in the Hannah Swensen series (wish I would have known that before I read this one . . . oh well too late now!). It reminds me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich where the main character is in relationships with two different men and that is the story line that carries one through the books. If that doesn`t interest you at all, then I think you would be able to read this as stand alone novels easily.
The basis of this book is that Hannah Swensen owns the local bakery in her quaint small town of Lake Eden. This gets shaken up a bit when she discovers the substitute Reverend dead in a plate of Devil`s Food Cake.
Overall I thought it was a great mystery it had a few unexpected turns but what I liked the most was that the author lets you think you have it all figured out early on. Then when you get to the end you find out that you really didn`t have it right at all.
Also interesting, the author throws in actual recipes throughout that are mentioned in the book. At first I thought this was really cute and unique but by the end I was just annoyed because there just seemed to an excessive amount of them.
I would recommend this book to those who like the Janet Evanovich series and to people who like a sweet mystery that isn`t too gruesome or takes too much brain power to comprehend.
