Decor Tips for your Room or Dorm...On a Budget!

Hello lovely Luuuxers!

I love to decorate my room as much as the next girl. I mean, who doesn`t like to spice up their room look every once in awhile?! As much as I love home decor, I have such a little budget that it is hard to mimic the looks I find on Pinterest and in magazines. But I`ve made do with what I had...and I absolutely love the decor in my room right now. Keep reading and I`ll tell you some of my tips!

Also, take a look at the pictures to see what some examples look like! :)

1. Polka Dot Wall Decor
I have a large white wall in my room that needed some love. I wanted to put up something that took up a lot of space, but I wanted it to also be easy, colorful, and non-messy. This is what I came up with!

To make my polka dot wall, I first went to Michael`s (though any craft store would be fine) and bought several sheets of decorative cardstock in the scrapbooking section. I was sure to choose a variety of different colors, patterns, and textures that matched my color scheme. My favorite type of paper was the one with silver is so pretty! I also bought a large, round paper punch at Michael`s. I then punched out circles from the sheets of paper, which only took a handful of minutes. Finally, I arranged them on my wall in a somewhat random pattern, making sure to spread out the different patterns evenly, using tape to attach them to the wall.

**PRO TIP #1: Use blue painter`s tape to adhere the polka dots to the wall, so that the tape doesn`t leave a mark on the wall when you take them off.
**PRO TIP #2: Make sure that you`re using cardstock, or very thick paper, and not using really thin or flimsy paper. If the paper is too thin, the edges will start to curl inward after awhile and that is not pretty!

This cost me a total of about $40, including the tape and paper punch. Keep in mind that Michael`s always has coupons on their website to bring your total down even more!

2. Use Christmas Lights to add sparkle to your room
This is such a cheap and easy way to make your room look more cozy, inviting, and twinkly! A string of Christmas lights is less than $10 at Target and you can string them anywhere; on your wall using Command hooks, across the headboard of your bed like I have them, or anywhere you want! I love the ambiance of my room when I have my lights on, and they double as a nightlight if that is what you prefer!

3. Use 3D Wall Decals
Wall decals are a fun and temporary way to add some life to a blank wall. I got these 3D decals at Target for about $10, and they are gorgeous and have lasted for a long time without falling off. They make a ton of cute 3D designs now that are sure to get compliments! I find that these are perfect for dorms or smaller spaces because they add visual interest to an otherwise bare wall.

4. Spruce up your bedding with throw pillows
I love getting throw pillows that match the color scheme of my room! There are tons of places to find throw pillows for really cheap. My favorites are Marshall`s and Home Goods! They are a really cheap and fun way to change up the look of your room, or make your bed look more luxurious. And, you can change them with the seasons or with your mood without going through the trouble of changing your entire bedding.

Those wrap up my four room/dorm decor tips! You definitely don`t have to spend a fortune to get a super cute, sophisticated room. Let me know if you are going to try any of these ideas in your space!
