I went on a 4-day cruise trip to Key West, FL and Cozumel Mexico over winter break. I can`t even begin to rave about how good cruise food is. I had a serious problem controlling my intake due to the multiple buffet lines open day and night. In addition to the regular meals that are included with our vacation package, there is also the opportunity to dine in at the formal dining rooms on board. I was naive and thought that I could only eat formal once, but my brother and dad went two times! The only hassle is that you`d have to change into formal evening attire each time but that`s it.
This is a glimpse of what I was served for dinner at formal dining. My main entree is the Lobster tail with shrimp, butter, garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli on the side. This was definitely the HIGHLIGHT of my meal that night. It`s been a while since I`ve had real lobster, and I forgot how tender the meat was. The tail is steamed impeccably to perfection and the butter makes the whole experience richer. The shrimp and mashed potatoes were just average though.
Next up is actually my appetizer, which was served before the lobster: Butternut Squash soup. Honestly I wished I had picked the Strawberry soup over this one. This one is just a little too bland for me. The squash is not too sweet but very grainy.
Of course, I had to order a drink to top it off. I wanted a margarita or a cosmo at first but then I saw that they had Kahlua and Amaretto. I opted for a shot of Kahlua which was actually VERY strong for me (10% alcohol). I didn`t down it but even as I sipped I was pretty buzzed afterwards. I`m such a lightweight. The kahlua was extremely bitter. I wish I had ordered a cocktail or at least Amaretto. Oh there`s always a first time for everything right?
