Comedy in London

I`ve talked about /viz/comedy-leeds on here before, but today I`m going to talk about clubs. London is the main comedic hub of England. Every British comedian you see on TV will be working in London. They work the clubs, they hone their material, and then they go on TV. You could argue that Manchester is similarly important (like New York and L.A in the US, they seem to have different styles and type of comic) but London is really where it`s at. A lot of the clubs in London (like clubs around the country) arent like the theatres that comedy takes place in on TV: they are much better; they are usually much more intimate. Comedy is at its best when in an intimate and dim setting. The lights on TV make it seems glamorous sure, but TV make it feel much less real. A club, like the famous 99 Club featured above is where comedy really shines. Comedy in London is really great because you get the big names in clubs like that. Leeds (and comedy in other places) might be interesting and embrace the whole underground vibe that punk did in the 70s, but for pure, joyful entertainment, and to see the people at the top of their games, you have to be in London. Most of the people I know involved in comedy want to end up in London. If so many people want to be there, it definitely says something about what is there. If you ever travel to London, go check out somewhere like the 99 Club, you will not be disappointed.
