Coil Necklace - "BLOOD & SACRIFICE"
Dedicated to MY HMONG PEOPLE & the ones who are still trapped in the jungle of Laos today!
This piece represents who I am, my culture, and what`s important to me: the Hmong people. The color red represents blood and the black represents sacrifice. The decorative triangle represents mountains; we were known as "people of the mountains." The spirals and the turtle represents longevity. On the back of the turtle contains a compartment storing a small book. This book reveals a devastating secret about the Hmong people`s history. That secret is known as the SECRET WAR IN LAOS."
Necklace was made of yarn, wire, and coiling material. The book is handmade and printed by me. The photos are taken by Roger Arnold, Tomas Van Houtryve and KC Ortiz.
This art piece was featured in the UWM art history gallery show- "Vanishing Text"
