At the Heart of Winter is the 5th studioalbum by the Norwegian extreme metal band Immortal. The album was released in 1999.
The album starts of with the song Withstand the Fall of Time, and it directly starts of with a bang. You can really feel the winter kingdom arise. The songs plays for over 8 minutes and the whole song is just wonderfall. 9/10
The second song is Solarfall. This song just keeps the feeling of winter. This songs is not as brutal as the first track and it doesn´t deliver as good either. 7/10
Tragedies Blow at Horizon is up next. This song feels just like the last. Still going strong. 7/10
4th song is Where Dark and Light Don`t Differ. The song repeat it self a bit. The same line is sang to many times. The song really drags the album down. 5/10
The 5th song is the title song At the Heart of Winter.
This song starts of with a keyboard orchestra which puts you right back into the winter feeling. When the guitars come hell breaks loose. The song takes everything and just blows you away. One of the best songs ever made. 10/10
The last song is Years of Silent Sorrow. This song is a really good ending to a really great album although it´s far from the best. Still the song is really good and when it´s done you just wanna hear the album once more. 7/10
The album is a classic album among the Black Metal scene although it isn`t Black Metal. It´s in my opinion the best album of the band and one of the greatest albums ever made. Summary: The album delivers pure winter feeling through your spine and you don`t want to stop listening once you have put it on. I just wanna bring a good stereo to the top of a Norwegian mountaintop and put it on. That would probably make this album even better.
