Author Marissa Meyer puts a new twist to a classic fairytale
I saw this book at the library and decided to give it a try because I liked the cover. The story is set in the far future. The world has been drastically changed by war, disease and interplanetary politics. The main character is a girl named Cinder who one day finds herself face to face with the Prince. Her life was basically normal until then, barring a few mechanical parts that is, then events begin to unfold that lead her to believe that the craziest thing to happen to her may not be just an opportunity to go to the ball.
This book was an enjoyable, quick read. I really liked the new setting that the author created. It was easy to fall into her descriptions of the futuristic city. The plot was also very complex, becoming much more than just a story of a commoner falling in love with a prince. It was really interesting how Meyer was able to incorporate the basic elements of the fairytale into the story: the stepmother, sisters, prince, and ball.
Cinder is the first in a series of books, or at least so says the inside cover of the book. There look to be three more spaced out over as many years. Im looking forward to reading the next book.
Have you read this? Do you like fairytale adaptations?
