Every time my boyfriend and I go to a Japanese restaurant, he orders a Chirashi don. I think its because I can`t eat raw sashimi so I won`t want to steal his food =P
Chirashi don is very similar to sushi as it uses the exact same ingredients - sushi rice, rice vinegar, and sashimi.
It`s served in a huge bowl and the bottom of the bowl is filled with sushi rice mixed with rice vinegar. Then they layer on sashimi on top. Depending on which restaurant you go to, the chefs may skimp on the sashimi but they didn`t for this one =) The most common sashimi you get are salmon, white tuna, tuna belly, hamachi and yellowtail. They also add a piece of kani, tamago and ebi on top.
How you eat it is by first mixing soy sauce and wasabi together to make a nice thick sauce. Then you pour it over the chirashi don.
Have you guys tried this?
