I had the wonderful privilege to go caroling with some awesome people tonight! My surrogate aunt ;) gets everyone together every year to sing carols at the Wal-Mart here in O`Fallon, Missouri around the Salvation Army bell-ringer bucket. It`s so wonderful to see all the smiles and waves and hear all the Merry Christmases` from passersby who drop their spare change in the red bucket. As cold as it is outside, it`s almost like you can feel the happy, warm, energy pass from us carolers to the donators.
There was such a great turnout from friends and family to ring in the cheer!
Singing carols really made me think about what holiday spirit actually is. It was such a great reminder that you don`t have to spend a ton of money on extravagant gifts to make someone feel the warmth of holiday cheer. Years and years ago it was so normal around the holidays to walk by the store fronts doing your holiday errands and run into troves of carolers. Nowadays, you`re lucky to find a free holiday show at a local church. It was so fun to bring back the holiday spirit of times past for shoppers by raising our voices in happy holiday cheer!
It`s also a nice reminder of how the holidays are for everyone. Christmas, Chanukah/Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever you celebrate, carols are for everyone! They don`t follow a religion or a particular day of the year. Most carols just bring to mind happy, cuddly, cozy thoughts of snow, cocoa, sleigh rides and chiming bells :)
I hope your holiday is filled with love from friends and family, lots of cheery nights by the fire (or fire picture on the tv haha) with cocoa and marshmallows and happy holiday memories no matter what religion you are or what holidays you celebrate! Happy holidays and carols from my cozy home to yours!
