My next stop on Mountains to see in North Carolina takes us out of the Appalachians and into the smaller sub range of the Uwharrie Mountains to Caraway Mountain. Located about 10 miles west of Asheboro, North Carolina this mountain is the most famous in Uwharrie Mountain sub range. There are 2 things that make this mountain the most famous. 1st off the historic Caraway Speedway. A small short track for the Nascar Whelen All American series and other racing series, located at the base of the mountain. The other famous thing about this mountain is one of the Nation`s Largest Christian Summer Camps and campgrounds. Camp Caraway. Run by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Camp Caraway can see up to 8,000 RAs (Royal Ambassadors) from around the state each summer. My Brother and I went to this camp for a week when we were younger. It is a Boys only summer camp but there is the nearby Girl`s camp located 2 miles away for GA`s (Girls in Action). In the camp there are several Athletic Fields, Zip Lines, Miles of hiking trails, Picnic areas, Canoeing, Fishing, 4 lakes to fish and canoe on, Paintball, 3 Swimming pools, Volleyball courts, and much much more! The Camp even boasts a 78 room 4 Star Hotel and Conference center. So If you`re looking for a good summer camp to put your boys into then Camp Caraway located right next to Caraway Mountain is the prefect place.
