Hi everyone. I just wanted to share some yummy candy apples I had made for my co workers. It`s not the caramel coated kind you usually find nowadays. It`s the ones you would find at carnivals. So, let`s get started shall we.
6 Apples (Granny Smith would be best but choice is up to you)
6 wooden popsicle sticks
1 1/2 C Sugar
1 C Water
1 C light corn syrup
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp red food color (you can omit this or use any other color of choice)
In a medium pot over high heat, bring sugar, corn syrup and water to a boil but remember to stir frequently. Once the mixture comes to a boil, stop stirring. Boil mixture until the thermometer read 285 degrees F, which is the soft crack stage. This will take any where from 15-20 min. The mixture is going to be hot so be careful. While you are waiting for the candy to reach 285 degrees F, insert sticks into cleaned and dried apples. When the candy reaches the desired temp, remove from heat and with a wooden spoon, stir in the food coloring and cinnamon. Then dip the apples into the candy until it`s evenly coated. Then place it on top of a silicon mat or parchment paper and let it sit for a while so that it can set. To clean up the pot just fill it when water and let it soak. I have noticed that sometimes bubbles form on the apple and I have heard that this is normal that it happens. But I am gonna research some more on how to prevent this from happening as much as possible. So enjoy and I hope you have fun making this. Oh, please don`t let little kids do this by themselves.
