Known to be created by Bakerella(.com) cake pops are just that. Cake on lollipop sticks. Basic cake pops are made from
1. A 9x13 in. Cake of any flavor, baked
2. 16 oz frosting (A stiff buttercream or commercial icing) (All will not be used depending on the amount of moisture in your cake) (
3. Lollipop Sticks or Skewers.
4. Candy Melts or Candy Melting Wafers or White Chocolate Chips
5. Block of Styrofoam or cake pop stand.
A. Mix together a cake of your choice and around half the container of frosting (8 oz). Add and mix the two until it forms into a playdough or modeling clay consistency.
B. Form the dough into balls and put onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze for a half hour as they are. Insert a lollipop stick or skewer into the par-frozen balls. Freeze for two hours to overnight.
C. Melt the candy melts until they are thin and easily pour off the back of a spoon. Put into a tall but skinny glass. The pop should be able to be completely covered by the mixture and not touch the side of the glass. Remove the excess candy melt from the pop by tapping the stick on your hand with the pop over the cup.
D. Put the pops into the styrofoam block (if you wish to reuse it then cover the block with plastic wrap) If you want decors such as sprinkles or cookie crumbs, then put them on while they are still wet.
E. Let them set for two hours to overnight before packaging or eating.
Have fun decorating your pops. (Shabby chic and bright colors are always in.) Use a little imagination and create your favorite characters or make them for a theme party!
