Thousands of fans "stormed" the Praça 8 de Maio, Coimbra, to receive the heroes of the Académica, who on Sunday won the second Cup in Portugal in club history.
Players of Briosa reached the square in a open top bus, a journey made very slowly, given the overwhelming number of people in the area. The party was huge in the college town, with shouts of encouragement and many scarves in the air.
Soon afterwards, the Académica squad climbed to the balcony of City Hall celebrating at this point, with the followers of the club ablaze. Inside the building, José Eduardo Simões, president of the emblem, noted that with the UEFA Cup, "the responsibility becomes greater, but financial conditions are not different" next season.
After passing the Town Hall, the team went back on the bus through the main thoroughfares of the city, in an environment of apotheosis.
