Book Review: Influence by Mary Kate amp Ashley Olsen

The book I am reviewing today is: Influence by Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen. I bought this book from amazon for $23.00. The reason behind buying this is because they are very lovely and big fashion insperations for me. I even wore the clothes they desgined for walmart when I was in 4th grade. It was nothing like walmart is now these clothes were very trendy for the time and the quality was amazing (I still have a few peices in my closet) with this line they made make up and during this time they were in a lot of movies. They are what really made me into fashion & beauty.

This book Influence by Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen is a very candid book with a lot of amazing wise words and amazing pictures.

Reading level: Ages 12 and up
Hardcover: 272 pages
Publisher: Razorbill; First Edition edition (October 20, 2008)

This book is split up into two books, in which there is two versons of this book of the girls. So one has Mary kate and the other has Ashley. Its really good for collectors of fashion books because you can pick which one you want or buy both.

This book has very good insight in the fashion world (In which I am really intersted in) On the other hand this book shows the working machine of the Olsen Twins and how they don`t just have a stylist to look good and call it a day like some celebs. They get there insperations from desginers and all over the world.

Doesn`t descibe how they got into fashion that much. I am asuming they got into it in there teens when they were involed in acting and were travling alot and then made a line for clothes and furniter. So they were almost born into is my guess but thats great for them.

heres what a reviewer said: "Without question they know how to market themselves and their product, and for that you have to admire them and their success, but when they stand next to the subjects of their interviews, what becomes very apparent is that they are not in that same class from an artistic and raw talent perspective, even though they are financially more successful than most of them. I think what the twins have managed to expose in this book is that they find themselves in a very privileged and fortunate position of power in the fashion industry because they have declared fashion their creative outlet through their Elizabeth & James line. They have access that many less fortunate, but far more talented purveyors of the craft, would kill for and as such they are able to parlay that into a book that seeks to elevate their credibility through association. Again, I give them credit in the marketing department for recognizing that their cutesy tween image is long past due and this book could give them a stepping stone to longer term credibility in an adjacent field to their acting alma mater.

Sure, the book will appeal to Olsen twin fans (and there are many of those), but it never really reveals anything about them and what they are going to do with the position of privilege and access that they have been given. So, they have received the "Influence" of an impressive cadre of iconoclasts, but now what are they going to do with it? This really should be categorized as a brand marketing text book rather than a coffee table fashion book."

Being that I am a creative person (Fashion Designer), I use this book when I need inspiration!!! :-)
