Blue Stove | Santa Monica

<strong>Blue Stove</strong> is actually located inside Nordstrom`s at Santa Monica. It was another dineLA restaurant that my friend and I wanted to try out. We went there for lunch and it was a restaurant with one $ so the lunch prix fixe menu was only $16 for three courses. The cuisine is "small plates" so the portions are smaller in size than a regular entree dish. It`s somewhat similar to ordering a bunch of different appetizers. My friend and I shared everything that we ordered so I was able to get a taste of everything :) .

<strong>Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos:</strong>
<dd>Crispy white corn tortilla shells, cilantro chicken, cilantro lime vinaigrette, romaine lettuce, queso fresco, roma tomatoes, yellow bell peppers.</dd>

<strong>Salt & Pepper Calamari with Lemon Zest:</strong>
<dd>Marinated calamari, paprika flour, lemon zest</dd>

Both dishes were really good, but I prefered the calamari because I absolutely love eating calamari. The tacos were good, but there was a slight taste of something that I didn`t really like. I couldn`t really figure it out, but in the end I only tried one taco because I didn`t like the overall flavors. My friend, on the other hand, really enjoyed the tacos and finished the rest of the order lol. The calamari was good, but it wasn`t anything special. It`s the kind of calamari that you can find at most restaurants.

<strong>Ahi Tuna Stack with Ponzu & Crisp Wontons:</strong>
<dd>Ahi tuna, ponzu dressing, red onions, avocado, mango, Asian slaw, champagne vinaigrette, scallions, crisp wontons.</dd>

<strong>Banh Mi Vietnamese Chicken Sandwiches:</strong>
<dd>Citrus marinated chicken, petit French rolls, chili aioli, cucumbers, pickled carrots & daikons, frenco chili, cilantro, lotus chips.</dd>

From these two dishes I think I prefer the ahi tuna. I love how the mango, tuna, and wontons tasted together. The wontons were super crispy and they provided the perfect crispy texture to the tuna. I really liked the French roll on the banh mi and the pickled veggies tasted just like how it does when I get Vietnamese sandwiches from back home. I didn`t really like the flavor of the chicken, so I was slightly disappointed by this dish. However, I loved the lotus chips! They were sliced paper thin and were fried until they were amazingly crispy.

<strong>Butterscotch Pot de Creme:</strong>
<dd>Butterscotch custard, fine sea salt.</dd>

<strong>Mixed Berry Cobbler:</strong>
<dd>Raspberries, blue berries, black berries, strawberries, butter cookie topping, vanilla bean ice cream, creme anglaise.</dd>

The pot de creme was so delicious; I love how it tasted with the sea salt sprinkled on top. The consistency was so smooth--yum! The cobbler was also quite tasty. I liked the tartness of the berries mixed with the sweetness of the cooking topping and the ice cream. My friend really liked it too because she killed the whole plate by herself lol.

The waitress also brought over some house-made chocolates for us to sample, which I thought was really nice of them. There were three pieces total: mint/milk chocolate, caramel, and mint/dark chocolate.
