Next on the list of Mountains to visit in North Carolina is not technically a mountain but rather a rock feature that sticks out from a mountain called Blowing Rock. Ironically the Mountain itself has no name. Go figure! Blowing Rock is just outside a town of the same name and is famous for its spectacular views and hard gusts of wind (du`h). However unlike the other mountains I have posted, Blowing Rock is not part of a State Park, but is privately owned and you have to pay a small admission to go see it. The Rock Feature itself is in Caldwell County, NC. What makes this Rock Feature so famous is an old Cherokee myth about a Cherokee brave warrior who jumped off the Blowing Rock feature to prove his love to a Cherokee woman. Legend has it that a strong gust of wind swept up Blowing Rock and blew him back up and onto the Rock Feature. There are a few trails in the area to hike, even one that runs right below the famous rock feature and there is an Observation deck at the end of that trail (pic 3). Even though this isn`t exactly a mountain and it`s not a State Park, Blowing Mountain is definitely a great place to visit for the great views and hard blowing wind for which it`s named.
