The data comes from Comscore consultant who says that 57 million Americans visited online stores, spending a total of 1042 billion dollars, approximately 804 million euros.

Amazon was the most visited store and at the level of the items purchased, the preference fell on products for the home that saw the most significant growth over the previous year (28 percent).

Much of the purchases were made through mobile platforms, reveals another study conducted by IBM. About 24 percent of Americans used the iPhone or iPad to get discounts online. (13 percent more than the previous year).

Opposite scenario lived up in the traditional trade, where purchases were much weaker than expected and have even fallen 1.8%, according to consulting firm ShopperTrak.

The Black Friday occurs every year on the day immediately following the holiday of Thanksgiving (22 November), and marks the "opening" of Christmas shopping.

The tradition is uniquely American but fashion has reached other countries like Brazil. In Portugal, Black Friday has already been imported by some brands but without the American success.
