Birthday Dinner at the Tickled Toad

So this past Friday was my birthday and lucky for me, I even got the day off :).

One of my friends decided she wanted to treat me to lunch to celebrate. However, it was also the time for the world cup qualifier between Armenia and Italy that I really wanted to watch. So to kill 2 birds with one stone, we decided to go out to a local pub called the Tickled Toad so we could eat and watch the game.

Unfortunately for me, Armenia ended up losing the game 3-1, but at least I got a good meal out of it! :)

I ended up ordering a burger, since it was what I was craving. But instead of getting fries, I had French Onion Soup instead since it is their special on Fridays.

I`m a self-professed French Onion Soup connoisseur, so I can be really picky about my soup. It was decent, but could have been better, for sure. The broth was nice and rich, but there weren`t enough onions in there. Also, there were a few bay leaves in my soup which probably should have been removed. They also need to use better bread and possibly toast it since it was sinking to the bottom of the bowl instead of floating on top like it should! The cheese was nicely melted, but they also added a layer of breadcrumbs on top that was unnecessary and made the cheese taste dry. Still, it was pretty good soup for a cold day. A few tweaks and it could be amazing!

The burger was pretty good. It was cooked the way I liked it and really hit the spot. They had this spicy mayo on the side so I could add as much as I want and it made the burger that much better.

I`d never really gone there for food before, besides the odd appetizer with drinks, but I`m curious to go back and try some more items on their menu :)
