Beautys Diner in Montreal Beautys Special
My cousins and I took a road trip to Montreal this summer when our family friends came to visit from out of town.
One of my cousins, being a huge foodie, is obsessed with Anthony Bourdain, who is a world-renowned chef. He is known for his show No Reservations, where he travels across the globe in search of different types of cuisine. His latest show is called The Layover where he attempts to sample a citys cuisine in the time he is spending there for a layover between flights (so usually under 24 hours). One of the stops he made on the episode where he is in Montreal was a place called Beautys. Beautys Luncheonette is a diner in Montreal that is known for their breakfast and something called the Beautys Special.
The Beautys Special is a fresh homemade sesame seed bagel served with smoked salmon, tomatoes, red onion and cream cheese. The original owner, Hymie Sckolnick, is still there every day, even though he is now at least 90 years old (no exaggeration! He actually celebrated his 90th birthday recently). He greets all the customers, including us, and his children and grandchildren help him run the place.
Ive had bagels with smoked salmon, tomatoes and cream cheese before, but this bagel is on a whole other level. They make the bagels fresh, smoke their own salmon and I believe even make their own cream cheese, all of which makes for a superior bagel!
Montreal is known for their bagels, and this bagel has been called one of the iconic dishes of Montreal. If you are even in MTL, you should definitely go check this place out!
